Other COVID-19 Approved Licensing Requests

Highlights

  • The NRC staff receives exemption requests, license amendment requests, and relief requests from licensees related to COVID-19 regulatory impacts.

  • The NRC reviews exemption requests to determine if exemption is authorized by law, will not present an undue risk to the public health and safety, and is consistent with the common defense and security, and there are special circumstances present.

  • The NRC reviews license amendment requests to determine if there is reasonable assurance that the health and safety of the public will not be endangered and that implementation of the license amendment will be conducted in compliance with the NRC's regulations, and the issuance of the amendment will not be inimical to the common defense and security or to the health and safety of the public.

  • The NRC reviews relief requests to determine if the proposed alternative provides an acceptable level of quality and safety, complying with the specified requirement would result in hardship or unusual difficulty without a compensating increase in the level of quality and safety, use of later ASME Code editions and addenda addresses all related ASME Code requirements, or granting relief is authorized by law and will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, and is otherwise in the public interest giving due consideration to the burden upon the licensee that could result if the requirements were imposed on the facility.
