Question 3: What do you do about hot particles?

Answer: Until changed by rulemaking, the dose limits in Part 20 (10 CFR 20.1201 (a) (2)) apply. Special rulemaking on "hot particles" is still pending. Until rulemaking is accomplished the NRC will continue handling hot particle enforcement issues in accordance with the stated Enforcement Policy published in the Federal Register (55 FR 31113, 7/31/90) and transmitted to nuclear reactor licensees as Attachment 2 to NRC Information Notice 90-48 (8/2/90).
