2.0 Site Status Summary

The site is a building and building annex on a 1.2 acre lot. Operations ceased several years ago. Source manufacturing started in the 1950's. Eberline fabricated sources with Co-60, Cs-137, Ir-192, and Ra-226. At one time, the facility had a small hot cell, but the cell was dismantled long ago. Eberline provided analytical services, including radiochemical analysis of samples from nuclear power plants. Eberline also provided environmental sample analysis. In 2016, Eberline contracted with a licensed service provider to perform site characterization and decommissioning work. Characterization work commenced in December 2016. A Characterization Survey Report was submitted in February 2017.  Once sufficient funding is secured, the licensee plans to remediate the site, propose a release criteria for unrestricted use, and conduct a final status survey.

3.0 Major Technical or Regulatory Issues

Eberline has held the California materials license since 1965 (and held an AEC license before that). There are some uncertainties from operations conducted many years ago. There is radioactive contamination on some fume hoods and ducting, within some drain pipes, and on some building surfaces.
