W21 First-of-a-Kind Risk-Informed Applications for Addressing External Hazards
The understanding of the risk posed to nuclear power plant operations from external hazards (e.g., seismic and high winds) has improved in recent years among internal and external stakeholders. The improved understanding is supported by increased capability to model such risks. Various regulatory activities have demonstrated that it is important to consider the risks from external hazards. This session will communicate perspectives of internal and external stakeholders on the impact of external hazards risk on operational and licensing activities as well as latest research in this area.
