Robert (Bob) Rishel

Bob Rishel is the Director, Nuclear Engineering, PRA for Duke Energy a position held since 2012. Previously held the equivalent position with Progress Energy, which included supporting the Harris plant’s implementation of  NFPA 805. Bob is also the current Chairperson of Boiling Water Reactor Owners Group committee for Integrated Risk, Informed Regulation (IRIR). Bob and his staff developed both the Harris Plant and Oconee fire PRAs for industry pilot for NFPA 805, and since has been developing Fire PRA for all of the Duke Energy fleet. This effort continued into developing High Wind PRA across the Duke Fleet, Seismic PRA as well as internal events updates and upgrades as needed. Bob’s PRA staff supports all risk informed applications for all of Duke Energy nuclear plants. These include the 50.69 application, Surveillance Test Frequency Control Program, NFPA 805, various Risk Informed Tech Spec changes, Integrated Leak Rate Testing Changes, Risk Informed Inspection program and many others. Prior to Progress Energy Bob held various positions with First Energy include nine years as a Senior Reactor Operator in the Shift Manager position. Following college by was commissioned in the US Navy where he served for nine years on US nuclear submarines as well as on the staff of the Commander Submarines US Atlantic Fleet. Bob graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in Nuclear Engineering.
