Mike Franovich

Mr. Franovich is the Director of the Division of Risk Assessment at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC). He is a member of the Unites States government's Senior Executive Service. Mr. Franovich has three decades of nuclear experience and has held leadership positions of increasing responsibility. He leads a work force that establishes regulatory standards for risk-informed nuclear reactor licensing and oversight, accident radiation dose assessment and meteorology, health physics, and fire protection. Prior to his current position, Mr. Franovich was Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Japan Lessons-Learned Division enhancing resilience of America's nuclear power plants defenses against extreme natural events. He also had served as the Deputy Director, Division of Safety Systems, Risk Assessment, and Advanced Reactors leading licensing efforts for small modular reactors and advanced non-light water reactor designs.  He received his bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Florida and his master's degree in reliability engineering with concentration in probabilistic risk analysis from the University of Maryland.
