Petteri Tiippana


Mr. Petteri Tiippana was appointed as the Director General of STUK in September 2013, and following an open competition, the Finnish Government renewed his term for another 5 years, which began on February 1, 2019.//Mr. Tiippana joined STUK in 1996 and has held various positions until he was appointed Director of the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Department in 2009.  Between 2003 and 2009, Mr. Tiippana worked as STUK’s Project Manager for the Olkiluoto 3 regulatory oversight project.

His career history includes active participation in the work of the OECD/NEA and the IAEA.  He also participated in the negotiations to enlarge the European Union with the European Commission in 2000 and 2001.  He is the Chair of the Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities of the OECD/NEA.  Mr. Tiippana was a member of the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) Steering Technical Committee and served from 2014 to 2018 as the Chairman of the MDEP Policy Group.  Mr. Tiippana was also appointed Vice Chair of the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association in October 2015.

Mr. Tiippana completed his studies of power plant engineering with a Master of Science degree at Lappeenranta University of Technology in 1997.
