Aaron Miles

Dr. Aaron Miles is the Principal Assistant Director for National Security and International Affairs at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In this capacity, he coordinates and leads science and technology policy efforts with significant national security import, ranging from nuclear and biological threats to space technologies. He previously served as Assistant Director for Nuclear and Strategic Technologies in the same office. Prior to these assignments, Dr. Miles served as a senior policy advisor on nuclear deterrence in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Before coming to Washington, Dr. Miles worked as a research physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland and a graduate certificate in National Security Studies from Texas A&M University. He has worked in policy development and research across a range of science and security topics, including deterrence, nuclear weapons, fusion energy, astrophysics, and planetary defense.
