Raising a Differing View in an Innovative Environment

Office of Enforcement

The NRC is committed to fostering an environment in which all employees are encouraged to raise differing views early and often throughout the decisionmaking process. Formal methods of raising a differing view include the nonconcurrence process (NCP) and the differing professional opinion (DPO) program. However, these formal methods do not, and should not, replace informal discussion among staff and management as part of modernized decisionmaking. This digital exhibit identifies best practices for participative decisionmaking while the agency moves forward on new innovations, includes general information about the NCP and the DPO program, and highlights recent updates to the NRC Differing Views Program.
