Ref.: 1. Letter, J. S. Holm (SPC) to Document Control Desk (NRC),
"Interim Report of Evaluation of a Deviation Pursuant to 10 CFR 21.21
(a)(2)," NRC:98:001, January 15, 1998.
Ref.: 2. Letter, J. F Mallay (SPC) to Document Control Desk (NRC),
"RELAP4 Excessive Variability, NRC:98:016, March 17, 1998.
The following interim report was provided to the NRC by the Reference 1
letter pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 21 to submit an Interim
report on issues for which an evaluation will not be completed within 60
days of discovery:
98-001 "RELAP4 Excessive Variability."
Additional information regarding the evaluation was provided in Reference
2.
Reference 1 indicated that the scheduled completion date for the
evaluation was April 3, 1998. The last portion of the evaluation is
underway, and the revised completion date is May 1, 1998. The evaluation
addresses the impact on all plants for which SPC performs LBLOCA
analysis, all of which have been completed except one. The results to
date are consistent with the discussion in Reference 2, which indicated
that the peak cladding temperature was lower after correcting for the
deviation.
