Re: Notification under 10 CFR Part 21 for Rosemount Model 1153B Alphaline Nuclear Pressure Transmitter
Pursuant to 10CFR Part 21 Paragraph 21.21(b), Rosemount Nuclear Instruments, Inc. (RNII) is writing to inform you of two errors contained in the Rosemount Specification and Outline Dimension Drawings for Model 1153 Series B Alphaline Nuclear Pressure Transmitters. The first error exists in the Specification and Outline Dimension Drawings for all 1153 Series B Model types (refs. a - d). In each of these drawings, the module qualified life and electronics qualified life shown in Figure 2 are in error. The graphs of Qualified Life vs. Ambient Operating Temperature were incorrectly transposed from ref. e in June of 1985. This error resulted in overstating the qualified life of both the module and the electronics. The Model 1153 Series B Qualification Report (ref. E), Product Data Sheet (ref. f) and ProductManual (ref. g) are all correct, and the error is contained only in the Specification and Outline Dimension Drawings.
The second error exists only in the Specification and Outline Dimension Drawing for Differential Pressure Transmitter, Model 1153DB (ref. b). In paragraph 4.2.2, the accuracy of the output code "R" following exposure to 22 megarads TID of gamma radiation exposure is incorrectly stated as +/- 1.5% of Upper Range Limit. The correct accuracy value should be +/- 4.0% of Upper Range Limit following exposure to 22 megarads TID gamma radiation exposure. This was a transposition error which occurred in the most recent revision to ref. b on June 27, 1997. The Model 1153 Series B Qualification Report (ref. e) Product Data Sheet (ref. f) and Product Manual (ref. g) were not affected by this error, and are stated correctly.

1.0 | Name and address of the individual providing the information: |
| Mr. Jeffrey W. Schmitt Vice President & General Manager Rosemount Nuclear Instruments, Inc. 12001 Technology Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55344 |
2.0 | Identification of items supplied: |
| All Model 1153 Series B Nuclear Pressure Transmitters shipped after June 1985, Serial No. 402580 and up. |
3.0 | Identification of firm supplying the item: |
| Rosemount Nuclear Instruments, Inc. 12001 Technology Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55344 |
4.0 | Nature of the failure and potential safety hazard: |
| Only some of the referenced procurement documents have errors. References e - g are correct. However, if the Specification and Outline Dimension Drawing is utilized to determine transmitter qualified life (ref. a-d), it is possible to infer longer qualified life (1 5 years vs. the correct qualified life of 10 years) than is warranted. Also, if the Specification and Outline Dimension Drawing is used to determine output code R accuracy, it is possible to infer greater accuracy than is warranted. |
5.0 | The corrective action which is taken, the name of the individual or organization responsible for that action and the length of time taken to complete that action: |
| All affected specification drawings will be revised within 60 days to reflect the correct qualified life vs. temperature relationships, as well as output code "R" accuracy. No further action related to this issue is expected. Mr. Schmitt is responsible should any further action related to this issue be necessary. |
6.0 | Any advice related to the potential failure of the item: |
| The end user must determine the full scope of this deviation as it relates to plant operations and plant safety and take action as deemed necessary. |
