VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION (VCSNS) DOCKET NO.50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 REPORT PURSUANT TO 10 CFR PART 21 (SSH 2001-002)

South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) submits this letter in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 21.21 (a)(1) as a report of an identified defect potentially associated with a substantial safety hazard. On February 28, 2001, SCE&G made notification to the NRC, via Power Reactor Event

Notification # 37788, of a defect associated with a refurbished Woodward Governor EGB unit. This EGB unit was dedicated by Engine Systems, Inc. (1220 S. Washington St., Rocky Mount, NC), the Woodward Governor nuclear dedication service provider. Since that time, Engine Systems, Inc. has issued a letter (re: 10CFR21 Reporting of Defects and Non-Compliance - Engine Systems, Inc. Report No.10CFR21 -0081, dated March 8, 2001) pursuant to 10CFR Part 21.21 (a)(1) notifying the NRC of the above mentioned defect.

SCE&G concurs with the conclusions reached in the Engine Systems, Inc. letter (Report No. 10CFR21-0081).

All 10CFR Part 21 reporting requirements were met by the information provided in Power Reactor Event Notification #37788 and the Engine Systems, Inc. letter (Report No. 10CFR21-0081).

Based on the above, no further correspondence associated with this issue is required by SCE&G.
