Plugins, Viewers, and Other Tools

This page provides access to plugins, viewers, other tools that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) uses to present documents, datasets, and other files on the NRC’s public Web site. If you don’t already have this software on your computer, you may need to download one of these tools to view or use the non-HTML files available through our public Web site.

The vendors for these tools allow Web users to download their tools free of charge. Follow their instructions for downloading the tool(s) you need.

File Type	Download Center and Description
	Adobe Acrobat Reader enables you to read and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files on all major platforms.
	Microsoft Excel Viewer allows you to open, view, work with, or print a workbook or dataset, even if you don't have Excel installed.
	Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer allows you to view, print, and copy PowerPoint slide presentations, even if you don't have PowerPoint installed.
	Microsoft Word Viewer allows you to view, print, and copy Word documents, even if you don't have Word installed.
CSV	Comma-separated values (CSV) format, also known as comma-delimited text, is a simple, open file format that is widely supported, so it is often used to transfer tabular data between different applications from a spreadsheet to a database program, for example). In this format, numbers and text are stored as plain text that can be read in a text editor, so no plugin or viewer is required to view or print these files.
XML	Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a set of rules for encoding documents in machine-readable format. To open, view, or print Word documents saved in this format, you’ll need the Microsoft Word Viewer, together with the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats.
JSON	JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is a text format that is completely language-independent, but uses conventions that are familiar to programmers of the C-family of languages (e.g., C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, etc.). Because it is easy for humans to read and write, and also easy for machines to parse and generate, it is widely recognized as an ideal, open data-interchange language. No plugin or viewer is required to view or print these files.
