William M. "Bill" Dean became Regional Administrator for the Region I Office of the NRC in October 2010. Region I is headquartered in King of Prussia, Pa., where Dean oversees regulatory activities in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Dean joined the NRC in 1985 as an Operator Licensing Examiner in Region II. He has held many leadership positions at the NRC including:
Assistant for Operations in the Office of the Executive Director for Operations, Deputy Director for the Division of Engineering in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and Assistant to the Director of the Millstone Special Project Office.

Dean won the NRC Meritorious Service Award in 2001 and a Presidential Rank Award in 2003.

Prior to joining the NRC, Dean served in the U.S. Navy as an officer in the Navy's Nuclear Power Program.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Physics and Information Sciences at the University of California at San Diego. He also obtained a Masters of Business Administration from National University in San Diego.
