Abstract

This report provides a current status of the high-temperature solidification technologies that have been used or proposed in the United States and abroad. The technologies presented in this report can be broadly classified into the following categories: Inconel-based, jouleheated melters; high-temperature, joule-heated melters; induction melters; cold-crucible induction melters; plasma melters; combustion melters; microwave melters; molten metal technology; and Synroc technology. The operating experience and safety issues associated with major solidification technologies are summarized.
