Abstract

Volume 1

This document identifies guidelines that review high-integrity software requirements documents in nuclear power plants and addresses item 4 (Adequacy of System Functions and Commitments) of the seven review requirements for digital systems listed in NUREG-0800. The framework used for developing the guidelines was taken from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Standard Review Plan, as well as Branch Technical Positions applicable to software-based digital systems. The topic areas include accuracy, functionality, reliability, robustness, maintainability, security, timing, and human-computer interaction. Checklists in accordance with IEEE Std 830 for use during software requirements reviews are also discussed.

Volume 2

This document provides descriptions of 45 failures that are linked to software requirements review guidelines listed in Volume I prepared under Contract NRC-00-037. The failure descriptions are "lessons learned" illustrating why specific software requirements guidelines are needed.
