New Fuels Licensing Activities

The table below provides a list of projects with new fuels related licensing actions for the front and back end of the nuclear fuel cycle. In-reactor safety is addressed in Fuel Qualification. While a project may be listed once, it is important to note that there may have been multiple actions taken related to new fuel activities.

1ATF (Accident Tolerant Fuels): Associated with accident tolerant fuel technologies including doped pellets and coated cladding but does not include items enriched greater than 5 weight percent U-235.

ARF (Advanced Reactor Fuels): Associated with non-light water reactor fuels including TRISO.

IE (Increased Enrichment): Associated with high-assay low-enriched uranium enrichments between 5 and 20 weight percent U-235.

Current new fuels transportation packages are for unirradiated material.
