Note that Taiwan has tens of thousands of unapproved rooftop inhabited units made of aluminum or with some steel, and many, even a majority of homes, have steel barriers to all external windows, and steel doors which they lock in place before retiring for the evening, all of which constitute serious barriers to timely egress during a fire, pose serious threats of smoke inhalation and concentration, and limit the ability of first responders without jaws of life, to immediately enter and take control of fire scenes. A number of Pacific islander students (from islands where the Joint Chiefs of Staff previously asserted sovereignty until Treaties in 1980) even passed away in such conditions of confinement on a rooftop illegal addition. 07/10/2023
