* On February 24, 2022, the NRC Commission issued three orders (CLI-22-02, CLI-22-03, and CLI-22-04) and Staff Requirements Memorandum, SECY-21-0066, “Rulemaking Plan for Renewing Nuclear Power Plant Operating Licenses – Environmental Review,” that impact the subsequent license renewal of the following plants:
- Turkey Point, Units 3 and 4;
- Peach Bottom, Units 2 and 3;
- North Anna, Units 1 and 2;
- Point Beach, Units 1 and 2;
- Oconee Units, 1, 2, and 3; and
- St. Lucie, Units, 1 and 2.
Until further notice, the completion date of specific milestones in the table above is undetermined and will be updated as soon as possible.
Safety Evaluation Report
The NRC staff reviewed the North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2, subsequent license renewal application for compliance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, "Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants" and prepared a report to document its findings. The draft "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the Subsequent License Renewal of North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2," was issued on October 18, 2021. The final “Safety Evaluation Report Related to the Subsequent License Renewal of North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2,” was issued on January 4, 2022.
Environmental Impact Statement
NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Subsequent License Renewal for North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2 (NUREG-1437, Supplement 7, Second Renewal) Draft Report" for public comment was published on August 19, 2021. This supplement documents the NRC staff's review of the environmental issues at North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2, regarding the Dominion Energy application for subsequent license renewal of that facility. This supplement was prepared in accordance with 10 CFR 51. This supplemental environmental impact statement includes the NRC staff's analysis that considers and weighs the environmental effects of the proposed action (subsequent license renewal) and the environmental impacts of alternatives to the proposed action. It also includes the NRC staff's preliminary recommendation regarding the proposed action. The comment period starts August 27, 2021 and ends October 12, 2021.
Public Involvement
The public is encouraged to participate in the reactor license renewal process through public meetings, and public comment periods on rules, renewal guidance, and other documents. The Reactor License Renewal Public Involvement page provides general information to help the public participate.
