Unified Public Web Search (UPWS)
The NRC introduced a new and enhanced capability to enable users to perform a single search to retrieve publicly available documents, items of interest, and other content across the NRC's entire public Web site, as well as the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). To use this Unified Public Web Search (UPWS), simply enter one or more words in the Search box located in the upper-right corner of each NRC Web page, and click the Search button as you've always done to search for topics of interest on the public site. Now, however, your search results will also include relevant documents retrieved from the vast collection of full-text documents in the Publicly Available Records System (PARS) Library. These ADAMS documents will be identified by the designation of "www.nrc.gov/docs" in the Web address, followed by the accession number and file type (for example, www.nrc.gov/docs/ML0117/ML011780469.pdf). Dedicated ADAMS search applications — including Web-based ADAMS (WBA) and ADAMS PUBLIC/Legacy Interface Combined (ADAMS PUBLIC) — are also still available for use. WBA is a particularly valuable alternative if you want to conduct an Advanced Search. This powerful utility enables you to refine your search selections to include or omit documents containing specific words or phrases, those matching specific properties (author, document type, docket/license number, and so forth), or bibliographic citations from the ADAMS Public Legacy Library.

Web-based ADAMS (WBA)
The NRC introduced a new interface for access to the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) through the public Web site. Known as Web-based ADAMS (WBA), this user-friendly interface is a key step in realizing the vision of the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) program, through which the NRC will further improve the quality, efficiency, security, and availability of regulatory and administrative information. As such, WBA will replace the Web-Based Access portal that many stakeholders previously used to access ADAMS. In releasing WBA, OIS seeks feedback from the public regarding this new interface. For that reason, WBA will operate in parallel with the existing ADAMS PUBLIC portal until next Spring, and will then become the public's sole interface to ADAMS. For additional details regarding ECM, see NUREG-1954, "Enterprise Content Management: Streamlining How Staff and Stakeholders Work within the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Regulatory Environment."

NRC's Open Government Plan
The NRC unveiled its new Open Government Plan, which reiterates the agency's longstanding commitment to openness and outlines plans for new transparency, participation, and collaboration initiatives. Available in both PDF and XML (.docx) formats, this plan expands upon The NRC Approach to Open Government, which the agency introduced by launching a new public site on February 4, 2010. In releasing this plan, the agency also re-opened its OpenNRC Forum to invite you to Share Your Ideas on the plan and provide feedback on the quality of the NRC's published datasets; opinions about what additional datasets the NRC should publish; or suggestions regarding how the NRC can be more transparent, participatory, and collaborative.

Deconversion of Depleted Uranium and the IIFP FEP/DUP Plant
A discussion of the benefits and hazards of the "deconversion" process through which large quantities of depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6), or "tailings," are transformed into chemically stable compounds that are generally suitable for disposal as low-level radioactive waste. Related information includes Frequently Asked Questions, as well as an overview of the existing and proposed deconversion facilities in the United States. In particular, these facilities include the Fluorine Extraction Process and Depleted Uranium Deconversion (FEP/DUP) Plant, for which International Isotopes Fluorine Products, Inc. (IIFP) submitted a license application to the NRC on December 30, 2009. In addition to the license application, the FEP/DUP Licensing page includes the governing regulation and legislation, an overview of the process for reviewing the safety evaluation report and developing the environmental impact statement, related correspondence, and information regarding public involvement in the licensing process.

Review of Performance Assessment for Decommissioning Plans
Licensees that are decommissioning their facilities are required to demonstrate to the NRC that their proposed methods will ensure that the decommissioning can be conducted safely, and that the facility will comply with the NRC's radiological criteria for license termination. Toward that end, licensees typically submit dose modeling information as part of a performance assessment, which accompanies the licensee's decommissioning plan. This updated page provides background information regarding the complex materials sites undergoing decommissioning, for which the NRC staff is currently reviewing performance assessment information. In addition, the available information includes chronological listings of related correspondence and documents, as well as information regarding participation in related public meetings.
